10 Best Games Releasing During the Summer Lull 2026

Summer Games Fest, the Xbox Insider Showcase. Summer State of Plays and Nintendo Directs. These are all, undeniably, highlights of the year for gamers, as you’re almost guaranteed to see a new game announced that gets you hyped for the months ahead.

But what many gamers, myself included, tend to forget each year is that once the dust settles on these events and showcases, there is often a months-long wait before that slew of new releases becomes available.

We are living through that summer lull as we speak, but fear not. As there are quite a few games marked for release during these hot summer months, you can keep your cool until the cavalcade of announced games comes along. Here’s the best of the bunch.

10. Moonlight Peaks

Let’s start with something cute and cozy. Moonlight Peaks is your typical ‘slice of life’ sim, but with an arcane twist to keep things interesting.

You’ll be able to engage with the usual gameplay loop of farming, finding friendship, and making your home the cozy sanctuary you could only wish for in real life.

But Moonlight Peaks stands out from the crowd thanks to its unique mini-games, potion-making mechanics, and gothic girlie aesthetic.

Check out the demo now before it launches in full on July 7.

9. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced

If there was ever a remaster/remake that the gaming community has been begging for, it’s Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. It’s admittedly partly down to the shortcomings of the series in recent years.

But, it’s undeniable that Black Flag remains one of, if not the standout game in the series, which is why we are hyped to get our hands on this new and improved version of this swashbuckling adventure.

We look forward to singing sea shanties at the top of your lungs again. Sailing the high seas, and inevitably aimlessly staring at the gorgeous water physics as the waves crash on the shore. It’s a pirate’s life for me, you, and all Assassin’s Creed fans on July 9.

8. Echoes of Aincrad

I would be lying if I said I was much of a Sword Art Online fan. I would be lying even more egregiously if I said I liked any of the mixed bag of games inspired by the anime series. But, credit where it’s due, Echoes of Aincrad just might have what it takes to break the mold.

Staying faithful to the series, but offering a player-led story separate from Kirito and crew, Echoes of Aincrad shows a lot of promise, with deep combat, gorgeous visuals, and a typically rewarding JRPG progression system.

Due to mixed reviews from the recent demo, a parry-based combat system, and weak boss encounters, it might not be for everyone. But, whether you’re an SAO fan or not, it’s worth keeping on your radar when July 9 rolls around.

7. Denshattack!

If you’re looking for the certified wildcard entry, then look no further than Denshattack! Which is easily the weirdest game on offer this summer, but in the best way possible.

It’s a game that takes the term ‘on-rails’ very literally, as players will control a runaway train hellbent on taking down the corporations that plague this vibrant world.

To boil it down, it’s essentially Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, but you’re a sentient, gravity-defying train. It’s a lot to get your head around, but as soon as you hit your first sweet combo, you’ll find that it’s pretty easy to suspend disbelief and get on board.

6. Halo Campaign Evolved

Halo? On a PlayStation? Well, I never thought I would see the day. But here we are, staring down the barrel of Master Chief moonlighting on other consoles courtesy of Campaign Evolved.

In a nutshell, this is a glorious remake of the first Halo game, with jaw-dropping visuals and co-op functionality, but most importantly, all the classic Halo gameplay and vibes that made it a marquee Xbox staple.

It’s truly a watershed moment for console exclusives, and one that everyone not affiliated with Xbox should take advantage of on July 28.

5. Mistfall Hunter

Fresh off a successful open-beta where a vast number of extraction fans popped their heads in to assume the role of a Gyldhunter and see exactly what an extraction ARPG plays like.

Serving as the first of its kind, Mistfall Hunters is a unique venture, but far from a shallow gimmick. Offering varied combat and procedural level design to offer varied experiences from session to session. Plus, oodles of build options that one would associate with an ARPG.

It remains to be seen whether this unlikely genre combo will truly have the substance to sustain a player base in the long term. But, based on what we have seen, Mistfall has done more than enough to warrant a try on July 30.

4. The Relic: First Guardian

Speaking of promising ARPGs, we have The Relic: First Guardian. A gorgeous, gritty-looking RPG adventure set to release on July 31.

Using Relics powered by the lost memories of those who once called Arsiltus home, players can engage with a deep, dynamic, and challenging combat system where passives and synergies will serve as your greatest boons in battle.

Plus, naturally, you’ll be pitted against some of the most gruesome, hulking, and brutishly strong bosses imaginable. Allowing you to put your respective builds to the test. You are Arsiltus’ last hope, but we reckon you have what it takes.

3. Beast of Reincarnation

Arguably, the most high-profile release of the summer, at least where new IPs are concerned. From the great folks that have been serving up Pokémon adventures for decades, Game Freak, comes a wholly new adventure.

Exploring through a post-apocalyptic Japan, you and your dog companion Koo will need to utilize a rich blend of real-time and turn-based hacking and slashing to take down the blighted creatures that would mean you harm.

It looks jaw-droppingly beautiful. It looks satisfying to play in and out of combat, and quite frankly. It looks like something I would have considered well beyond Game Freak’s capabilities. Kudos in advance, as this game looks set for an August 3 release.

2. Big Walk

Rivaling Denshattack in the ‘summer’s weirdest game’ category is Big Walk. A strictly co-op endeavor that sees you and pals do exactly what it says on the tin. Go for a big walk.

This will involve drinking in the gorgeous surroundings as you walk and talk with friends. Ask you to communicate effectively to navigate the various pitfalls that could befall you, and gesticulate wildly when things get stressful.

It’s one of the most unique and wacky games you’ll see all year, but would you expect anything less from the Untitled Goose Game devs? This one drops on August 4.

1. Duskfade

Lastly, before we exit the Summer season and usher in our next busy release period, we have Duskfade. A game that feels like a gorgeous blend of Kingdom Hearts, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and various other mascot platformers of the golden era.

This clockpunk love letter to the mascot platformer greats stands out from the crowd by bringing this format into the modern era, complete with lush visuals and the promise of a gripping coming-of-age story.

But above all, this feels like a nostalgic romp that will sate the appetites of folks who grew up in the PS2 era. Duskfade clocks in on August 13
