XBOX has just announced a price increase for its consoles, and expects the storage and memory component costs to double in Fall 2027.
The latest set of XBOX console price increases has been announced. Starting August 1, the price of 512GB models will increase by $100, and the price of 1TB models will increase by $150. The price increase comes as part of rising component costs, and those prices could rise again in 2027.
XBOX Expects Console Storage and Memory Prices to Double in 2027
In a recent blog post, Xbox announced that it will need to raise console prices due to rising costs of storage and memory components. The company noted that these prices have increased by more than 2.5 times and expects them to double by Fall 2027. Microsoft also highlighted that the surge in component costs has a particularly significant impact on consoles, as they are usually sold at a loss, meaning they cost more to produce than they sell for.
The increasing costs of memory and storage components are impacting all major players, forcing them to adjust their prices. Earlier this year, we saw Sony raise prices on all PlayStation hardware. We also saw the price announcement for the highly anticipated Steam Machine, which starts at $1,000. Valve explained that the Steam Machine was originally intended to be much cheaper; however, shortages and significant price increases in RAM and storage components led to higher costs.
