Control released in 2019 as a new IP for Remedy, and since then, it’s spun off into a franchise of its own. Control Resonant, the upcoming sequel, marks the second mainline entry, and third overall when you include the multiplayer spinoff, FBC Firebreak.
However, even though Resonant is yet to be released, with the September 24 release window on the horizon, Remedy is already looking towards the future of the franchise, though a lot remains dependent on whether Control Resonant ‘does well.’

Remedy Looking Towards ‘Long Term Control Franchise’
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Control Resonant’s Art Director, Elmeri Raitanen, where we discussed what the future of Control looks like going forward, and it boded well for fans of the franchise.
Conversations began with how Remedy had accounted for Control Resonant from the start, as it was ‘always the plan, from the get-go’ to shift from Jesse to Dylan as a protagonist.
Raitanen noted that, unlike Alan Wake or Max Payne, Control isn’t named after the protagonist. Instead, they refer to Control as a ‘world first design,’ where the world-building and overarching story take precedence over the specific narrator or viewpoint. Back in 2019, it was Jesse’s story; now, it’s Dylan’s, as it’s time to explore the other side of the ‘Faden sibling coin.’
But a coin only has two sides, so what comes after Control Resonant? Well, Remedy are already planning for that, though Raitenen was sure to set expectations:
That was always the plan, and let’s hope that we do well so we can do even more stories in the Control universe.
It’s abundantly clear that Remedy is still looking to expand upon the Control narrative, as the team looks towards building a ‘long term Control franchise.’ It’s fair to say steps in that direction have already been made, what with FBC Firebreak serving as the first spin-off—even if it underperformed.
However, in what is consistently proving to be a volatile industry, a lot does hinge on the success of Control Resonant. The original passed six million lifetime sales back in May, but with an intention of stronger marketing this time around, it’s unclear what would be deemed as successful enough for more Control, though the team certainly seem eager to explore what’s next.
