Days after the reports began regarding other Xbox studios, one of its biggest first-party developers is also going to look drastically different. According to 3D Realms and Apogee co-founder George Broussard, layoffs have begun at Zenimax Studios.

Broussard made the claims in a post on social media on Wednesday.
“Getting word that layoffs at Zenimax has begun,” he said. “Heard rumblings recently that the cuts may be much deeper than you expect.”
Rumors began to circulate earlier this week that Xbox was looking to let go of those employees within the studio who aren’t working on Fallout or Elder Scrolls. It’s something that Broussard said he was told as well.
As always, these are just rumors at the moment. Until something is officially announced, or Insider Gaming can confirm the details with our own sources, please take the information with a grain of salt.
Xbox hasn’t responded to requests for comment on the latest claims.
Dark days ahead for Xbox
In addition to the latest rumors surrounding Zenimax, Xbox is set to shut down Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, and Double Fine. Management at the three studios are in negotiations to find a way to keep the studios alive as independent entities.
Another studio Insider Gaming has learned is at risk is Arkane Lyon. It’s worth noting, however, that it’s unclear if a definitive decision has been made.
