Insider Gaming spoke to Damjan ‘kyxsan’ Stoilkovski after Aurora’s elimination at the Esports World Cup 2026 Counter-Strike tournament.
The now-international roster lost 10 rounds in a row, failing to register a single T-side round on the deciding map of Mirage in the three-map contest.
Insider Gaming interview with Aurora IGL kyxsan at the Esports World Cup 2026
Obviously a tough loss today. You know, what are your first kind of reflections?
Well, it’s a frustrating way to lose because I feel like they might think the same, but we also feel like we could have won 2-0 because the first map we had such a great T side, and then we just couldn’t close it out on CT side on Ancient.
When it comes to Nuke, it was obviously a close game. It’s one of their best maps, one of the best maps for us also, and I’m just happy we had a good mentality and closed it out in the end.
When it comes to Mirage, CT side was good, T side was not the best. I would say that my calling wasn’t the greatest, but even when the call was good, we still managed to do something bad in the round and kind of make the round worse.
So I think we just played bad on the T side. The calling was not the best, and also the small individual decisions were not the best.
As you say, you kind of recovered from failing to close out the first map. Do you think you have a good mentality in the team, in terms of being able to recover from what happened today?
I think usually we have good mentality. I mean, we’re still a new team, but we’ve been in situations in some of the games we played where we needed to come back, and we’ve done it a few times.
So usually we have good mentality, but today it was mostly about what happened in the server, not about our mentality. So we just we were not sharp on Mirage T-site, and that cost us the game.
From your own perspective, is there anything in a tactical sense that you’re looking at in terms of that T-site, or would you say it’s about individuals?
I think if you talk about Mirage specifically, it was kind of both. I think, as I said, some of the calls I did were bad.
For example, we did the A explode; they were two A, including AWP. Then we did the B pop; they were again two B.
So some of the rounds it was a bad call, but some of the rounds I think we had a good call, but someone in the team managed to do something that made the round harder in a way.
So maybe he forgot to throw a smoke, or he forgot to do something that was important, and then that made the round harder for us. And so I just think it’s a mix of both.
We also saw some people take quite a few disconnected duels. How do you feel about that?
I feel like it happened a lot, but this is not the way we want to play. I think this is the way we play when we are not sharp and when our communication is bad, and that’s how it was on Mirage T side.
I think, for example, Ancient T side and Nuke T side were much better, so we didn’t go for all of these individual duels, and we played more as a team.
But on Mirage, because we had a bad start on the T side and maybe we kind of hurt our confidence a little bit, and also our comms were not the best, the calling was not the best. So it’s a mix of all of these things, and that made us play that way.
You’re talking about comms. This is a roster that has just transitioned into being an international roster. Can you give us insight into where you are in terms of communication between individuals?
I think it’s getting better. It’s much better compared to the start. Obviously, for Wicadia, for example, it’s the first international team.
For the other two, it’s the first one after 5 or 6 years, so it’s been a while, and they need time to get used to it. But I feel like we are improving.
We are still not where we want to be when it comes to the comms, but we kind of know what we need to work on, and I feel like it’s just getting better with time.

And what does that look like in the server? Does it impact what you can call at all, or do you think it just makes it a bit more sluggish when you do make more complicated calls?
No, I don’t think it makes it more complicated. Maybe for them it’s a bit more complicated than usual because they’re still not used to speaking English in a team full-time, but for me it doesn’t make a big difference.
I think all of them have good English, like enough to understand everything in the game, so as I said, we are not where we want to be, but I feel like we’re improving, and soon we’ll be much better.
This roster is still very new. By the end of the year, where do you see yourself competitively? Top 20? Top 10?
By the end of the year, it’s hard to say a number where I see us or where I see us in a few months, but I would say that what I’ve seen so far from this team is that on a good day we can compete with everyone.
We played practice against all the top teams, and we had some close games, and I’m pretty sure we can compete with anyone.
The thing for now that we need to fix is the consistency, so we just need to be consistent to be able to do this more often.
I mean, FURIA is the first, let’s say, top-tier team that we played since the change, and I think it was a decent game from us.
We could have won it 2-0, as I said, but in the end we lost. So it’s just about finding the consistency, because I think this team has a lot of skill and a lot of potential, and it’s just about unlocking it in a way.
Does that consistency come with more familiarity with each other?
Yeah, of course. I mean, we’ve been a team only for a month.
I mean, some might say it’s been some time already, but one month is not a lot for a new team, and especially when three of the players are switching language.
So I think with time everything will get better, and we’re just practicing more, and even more importantly, playing more officials together, especially LANs and arenas. This will help us a lot.
