Hideo Kojima has big plans for his upcoming horror title OD and wants to go ‘beyond the limit’ of scariness, pushing things further than any video game has before.
Initially announced in 2023, OD has big names in the cast, including Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier, and boasts involvement from Jordan Peele, who is behind films like Get Out and Nope.
While scary video games have tended to remain fairly tame and not push things too far into the nightmare realm, Kojima wants to go bigger and scarier than anyone before.
Kojima Wants OD to be ‘as Scary as Possible’

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kojima revealed how many big companies turned down his proposal, who said he was “crazy” and that they “really don’t understand the concept,” before Xbox ultimately got on board.
Kojima explained he planned to “go beyond the limit of the ‘scariness’ that other games had reached,” with the title set as “a single-player game” that he wanted to make “as scary as possible.”
That may prove to be too much for some players, and Kojima is making OD more accommodating by devising a system that allows players to continue if things get too scary, though he “can’t say much more, because it’ll give too much of a hint on the system.”
No release window for OD has been revealed as of yet, and it could still be a few more years in the making before gamers get thrust into the narrative nightmare.
