Steam Machine reviews are out in the wild, and they’ve been quite mixed. Some reviews praise the simplicity of the device to get it up and running, while others lament the hardware and claims from Valve that it can run games at a 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
And, as it turns out, Valve is even walking that claim back a bit.
When the living room PC was announced, it proudly advertised support for 4K60. In fact, it was listed as a core feature of the device on its landing page.
But not anymore.
A visit to the page now shows a slightly different, yet important wording change. Valve now says the Steam Machine supports “up to 4k gaming with FSR 4.1, thanks to a discrete semi-custom AMD desktop class CPU and GPU.”
For comparison, many reviews have the Steam Machine’s graphic performance lining up with GPUs such as the Intel ARC B570, Nvidia RTX 3060, and the AMD RX 6600. Many of the tests at 1080p, at least from Gamers Nexus, saw performances of under 60 FPS. Even at 1440p, the Steam Machine would struggle with certain modern games.
What do you think of Valve changing the wording on the Steam Machine to no longer advertise 4K60 resolution? Leave your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion in the official Insider Gaming Discord.
