XBOX’s Disc-to-Digital Service ‘Expected’ to Be Revealed this Month

A reliable insider has revealed that XBOX’s disc-to-digital service, Positron, is “expected to be revealed” in August 2026.

After the shock surrounding Sony’s announcement that it would stop producing physical discs for PlayStation games in 2028, players also received information about Xbox’s plans. A report from last month indicated that Xbox is developing a new tool designed to preserve disc games as digital licenses, and the latest info says it could be revealed soon.

XBOX’s Positron Service Seemingly Will Be Revealed in August

Information about XBOX’s disc-to-digital service, Positron, being revealed in August comes from a report from Windows Central. Sources indicate that Microsoft is finalizing “some of the finer details” before the announcement. The report also notes that not every Xbox 360, Series X/S, and Xbox One game will be supported; however, a significant number of titles are anticipated to be included, pending licensing agreements with publishers.

For those who may not be familiar, Xbox’s Positron is a tool designed to create digital licenses for disc-based games, helping to preserve these titles. To use the tool, players will need to insert a compatible disc, install the game, and load it. A Microsoft account on the console is required to receive the game’s digital entitlement. Additionally, if these games support Xbox Play Anywhere, players will receive a PC version of any Xbox Series X/S disc-based game associated with their Microsoft account.
