The latest US video games sales data reveals that XBOX has just experienced the worst May ever recorded for hardware sales.

Hardware sales haven’t been particularly kind to either of the console giants in May 2026, and that’s all thanks to the price increases. We were just informed that PlayStation’s hardware numbers crashed to the lowest May numbers in 25 years, and now XBOX seems to be in a worse boat.

XBOX’s May Hardware Sales Were Lowest in US Tracked History

The latest insights on XBOX’s May 2026 hardware sales in the US come through a new thread by Matt Piscatella on BlueSky. Players have been informed that Switch 2 was the best-selling hardware for May 2026 and the 2026 year-to-date, PlayStation came in second, and XBOX was last. However, it was a very bad month for XBOX, as the “hardware unit sales were the lowest ever recorded for a May month,” and the tracking began in 1995.

The dip for both console giants is entirely due to the recent price increase, caused by shortages and rising costs of console storage and memory. XBOX has just announced a price increase for consoles, effective August 1, raising the price of each model by $100 or more. However, that might not be the end, as the console maker expects storage and memory prices to double by the fall of 2027, which could also impact console prices.
