The developers have announced that players will be receiving a first look at Witcher 3’s Songs of the Past expansion at Gamescom 2026.

The Witcher 3 will be receiving a brand new expansion after being in the market for more than 11 years, with Songs of the Past releasing for the game in 2027. It is speculated that the upcoming expansion will set up the story for the next installment, The Witcher 4; however, players will have to wait until the Gamescom 2026 showcase to know for sure.

A new post on The Witcher’s official X account (formerly Twitter) reveals that players will be seeing that Songs of the Past expansion at Gamecom 2026. The developers have invited players to join them in the entertainment area, where they will showcase the upcoming expansion. It is currently unclear whether CD Projekt Red will present just a trailer or provide a playable demo. Players will have to wait until August 2026 for more information, or another announcement may come soon.

Witcher 3 Devs Insist Songs of the Past is an Expansion and Not A DLC

According to statements from the developers, the upcoming expansion appears to be significant. Marcin Łukaszewski, the social media manager at CD Projekt Red (CDPR), has emphasized that “Songs of the Past” should not be referred to as a DLC, but rather as an expansion. When asked to clarify the distinction, Łukaszewski explained that CDPR views DLCs as minor content additions, typically provided for free, such as extra outfits. In contrast, they consider expansions to be “major pieces of content providing lots of hours of gameplay, including new story, characters, etc.”

In other news, the latest announcement by CD Projekt Red reveals that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold 65 million copies. Additionally, an updated set of minimum PC system requirements has been provided for the upcoming expansion.
