Zombies has become a fan-favourite mode in the Call of Duty franchise, evolving from the traditional round-based mode to an open-world extraction shooter, and has become an increasingly significant part of the most recent games.

Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Have Zombies?

No, Modern Warfare 4 will not feature a Zombies game mode of any sort, including a round-based option or an extraction mode, like MWZ.

Zombies has become synonymous with the Call of Duty franchise, and the past three titles have all featured Zombies content in some aspect, with the past two Black Ops titles having both round-based mode and PvE antics, while Modern Warfare 3 featured the inaugural MWZ mode.

MWZ in Modern Warfare 3 took place on a huge map, splitting zones into three areas of difficulty, and while it wasn’t for many players, it established a popular fanbase and offered a different experience after years of round-based Zombies action.

In Black Ops 6, round-based Zombies was the focus, while Black Ops 6 had the same round-based approach, alongside the open-world ‘Endgame’ mode. However, that trend comes to an end with Modern Warfare 4.

What Game Modes Will Modern Warfare 4 Have?

Modern Warfare 4 will feature the game modes everyone has come to love, with the main story, multiplayer content, Warzone, and the return of DMZ.

DMZ acts as a replacement for Zombies in Modern Warfare 4, returning to the Call of Duty franchise for the first time since Modern Warfare 2. While MWZ was somewhat of a successor to DMZ, Modern Warfare 4 returns to a more grounded reality.

Rather than facing off against Zombies, players in DMZ will experience a PvPvE environment, with the choice of taking down AI-controlled enemies and objectives, going head-to-head with enemy players, or a mix of both.

Activision says DMZ is back and ‘bigger than ever’ in Modern Warfare 4, and more details on the mode will be revealed as the launch window edges closer.
