Waste The Fallen is a New Extraction Game That Promises Not To Punish Players

Waste The Fallen has just been revealed by Royal Crow, a South Korean studio with a desire to produce a new take on the extraction shooter space. In Waste The Fallen, players dive deep into a Lovecraftian world teeming with mutated, grotesque threats, fighting them and other players, either solo or in squads, to secure the riches of a world gone bad.

The order of the day with Waste The Fallen is all about welcoming players and not punishing them, so it’s safe to say that, while Waste The Fallen is dark and horrific, it won’t be a punishing extraction game, unlike some others in the space.

What’s better is that the game’s first closed alpha is set to start in just a few weeks!

Royal Crow has tried to piece together something truly unique in the extraction space and is inviting players to gear up, enter a raid, and contend with terrifying, Lovecraftian entities while seeking out remarkable loot that gets more valuable the further the player persists through their run.

The world is split up into multiple zones, and players will use the treasures they uncover to level up the abilities and accolades of their Deviant, their character model. Each Deviant has a Bio-Arm mechanic that can be fused with various skills and other elements to increase players’ survivability in the ruined world around them.

In a world dominated by tactical, military-style extraction shooters, Waste The Fallen represents a stab at something new.

Players will find that the longer they spend in a raid, the more horrific the world around them becomes, and there’s even a ‘sanity meter’ to worry about as the ruins of the zones around them are picked through. What’s impressive is that Royal Crow intends to innovate in the space while doing away with some of the crushing traditions of extraction games.

For instance, there’s an ‘oversized safebox’ feature that allows users to bank more equipment much faster, so if they fail their run, they can recouperate and move back in much more efficiently. There’s a huge push to balance risk against reward in a way that feels welcoming and not punishing.

In Waste The Fallen, players will upgrade and evolve a full-fledged hideout, equipped with crafting stations and storage solutions. That’s a typical feature in extraction games these days, so it’ll be interesting to see how Royal Crow can innovate there as well.

In a quote, the game’s producer, Byungnam Choi, said:

We wanted to make an extraction shooter that welcomes you in rather than punishing you for showing up.

Korea has a rich history of acclaimed horror, and we wanted to bring that atmosphere into a Lovecraftian FPS.We aimed to create a world where fear gradually creeps into the player, while designing a gameplay structure that rewards curiosity and deeper exploration rather than causing players to lose everything because of a single mistake.

From September 4 to September 8, a limited-time closed alpha will be held for prospective fans located in North America.
