A co-writer of the upcoming sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman has remarked that Hollywood’s focus is shifting from comic books to video games.

At one point, Mattson Tomlin was attached to a Mega Man project for the big screen. Recently, he responded on social media to someone who was looking for an update on the project and asked if he was still attached. His response left the project’s status in limbo. Still, he’s not sure he’ll be involved in the project if it moves forward.

Furthermore, Mattson Tomlin says he could see the Mega Man project getting made, as video games are emerging as Hollywood’s next major storytelling focus after years of comic book films. It is true that for the past 20 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has dominated Hollywood, and now many projects in both TV and film have emerged that are built around popular video game franchises such as God of War, Life Is Strange, and more.

“Hollywood is sort of making a shift from being comic book obsessed to video game obsessed so I wouldn’t be surprised if it sees the light of day in some form, but after so much time gone by, it’s unlikely I’ll have anything to do with it,” he said.
