Tarkov Players Find Mysterious ‘TarCoin’ Item Following Update

Recently, Battlestate Games deployed the 1.0.4.5 update to Escape from Tarkov, implementing several balancing changes and introducing a few more optimizations to the popular extraction shooter.

However, users have noticed that not every change has made its way into the patch notes for 1.0.4.5. For instance, some avid Tarkov fans have taken to social media to report finding a mysterious new barter item called ‘TarCoin’ that was added during the recent update but was never formally addressed by Battlestate Games.

What is a TarCoin in Escape from Tarkov?

On Reddit and X, users started uploading images of a new loot item called a TarCoin. It’s an all-new valuable item in Escape from Tarkov, but at the time of writing, its use case was unknown. It’s yet to be picked up by sites like Tarkov Market.

The item’s in-game description reads:

A mysterious currency that appeared in Tarkov after the Contract Wars had already begun. The motto stamped on the coin refers to a certain well-known company… A rare item, prized by everyone without exception.

It’s a small, diamond-shaped token that cannot be sold on the Flea Market and cannot be discarded in raid. Aside from that, we know nothing.

On various forums, users surmised it’s something to do with the increasing connection between Escape from Tarkov and Escape from Tarkov: Arena, the session-based multiplayer spin-off. The recent event in Tarkov, dubbed Casus Belli, was all about that connection and fusing the two games further.

So far, users have reported finding the TarCoin in Escape from Tarkov in the biggest chalet on Lighthouse, and in Dorms Marked, but it’s safe to assume it could pop up anywhere.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more about this mysterious item soon.
