Earlier this week, Battlestate Games published some impending changes headed to Escape from Tarkov’s Early Test Server (ETS). The specific changes concerned ‘realistic aiming mechanics’ and were posted on social media by Nikita Buyanov, the head of the studio.
However, blowback ensued, and folks came out in droves to complain about the update, which was by no means set in stone. They argued that it was realism for the sake of realism, that realism didn’t automatically equal fun, and that rather than adding more ‘clunky’ systems, the developers should be trying to optimize what exists.
In another post, Nikita Buyanov has tried to dial back the hate.
Escape from Tarkov ‘Updated Aiming v.2’
In a short video posted on social media, Nikita Buyanov has outlined version two of the updated aiming mechanics, designed to more closely reflect real-life weapon handling. The original post that surfaced a few days back was plagued by intense negativity, and not a single nice word could be found in the comments under the video.
This latest post has been met with much more positivity, but fans are still questioning why it needs to be proposed in the first place.
Here’s the video:
The changes aren’t in the main game, and might never appear at all. They’re bound for the Early Test Server, which users can access to trial out incoming features and updates ahead of them maybe hitting the main platform.
What has been shown is a noticeable improvement, as the first proposal felt cumbersome and unnatural compared to what exists in Escape from Tarkov. It’s still not perfect, and that’s a sentiment echoed by many of the game’s fans on social media.
What do you think? Do you think Escape from Tarkov even needs changes like this, or are things fine as they are? Let us know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
