Escape from Tarkov’s Nikita Buyanov, the head of the studio at Battlestate Games, recently put forward a rather dangerous suggestion during the latest episode of Tarkov TV. The enigmatic lead wanted to gauge the opinions of viewers worldwide on the concept of allowing PvE players to use ‘Tarcoins’ to buy in-game currency.
The slippery slope has already started with the Expansion Hub, and arguably before that, with the game’s ‘pay-to-win’ editions, but this new idea could be a game-breaking one, in a sense. The only saving grace is that it would be reserved for PvE gamers exclusively… For now.
Huge PvE Changes Incoming for Tarkov
During the most recent episode of Tarkov TV, Nikita Buyanov spoke about the evolution of PvE, the ‘more casual’ mode in Escape from Tarkov, arguably the most prolific extraction shooter ever made.
He revealed that there’s a massive PvE-focused update coming in October that will introduce the Prestige mechanic to the platform, along with unique rewards tied specifically to the PvE ecosystem. There’s also an overhaul coming for the AI-driven bots in PvE, specifically the AI PMCs, and more ‘quality-of-life’ enhancements are planned.
What isn’t coming soon is the seasonal content that was just added to the game, presenting players with a third core way to experience Escape from Tarkov. For now, that will remain exclusively a PvP-focused offering.
But then Nikita started talking about the potential to let PvE players stock their coffers using Tarcoins, a new digital currency added to Escape from Tarkov several weeks ago. This mechanic would allow users to use Tarcoins, either earned or bought with real-world money, to unlock in-game currency.
Can you imagine if something like that made it into a PvP-focused world? It would be a nightmare.
