The news of Street Fighter 6‘s success comes soon after Capcom revealed its latest franchise sales numbers in May. According to the gaming giant, Resident Evil has remained at the top of the charts, selling over 170 copies across all series entries. This is followed closely by Monster Hunter and Mega Man, though Street Fighter has also remained a major contender, with 56 million units sold. The release of Nintendo’s newest hardware seems to be bolstering sales of Street Fighter‘s latest release, and Capcom has now revealed even more positive news about one of its most beloved franchises.

This is an impressive number when compared to past releases, with Street Fighter 2 selling a total of 6.3 million copiesduring its lifetime, and Street Fighter 5 selling 7.8 million copies to date. This recent boost in sales may be attributed to Street Fighter 6‘s Switch 2 release on June 5 alongside the newest Nintendo hardware, which includes console-exclusive modes, new gameplay functions compatible with the Joy-Con 2, and cross-play with other systems. Capcom hopes that releasing the two-year-old fighting game on the Nintendo Switch 2 will boost Street Fighter 6‘s userbase, as more content is planned to be released soon.

Street Fighter 6 Has Sold Over Five Million Copies

While players are largely thrilled with the title’s release on the new console, the physical release of Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2 comes on a Game-Key Card, with its DLC only available via a code that will seemingly expire in two years. Capcom is seeing pushback for this decision, as many are baffled as to why the company didn’t simply include previous DLC content on the Game-Key Card itself.

The future of the fighting game is looking bright, with Street Fighter 6‘s Season 3 DLC characters recently revealed as Sagat, C. Viper, Alex, and Ingrid. It’s unclear when exactly these characters will be joining the title’s roster, but Sagat is expected to become available this summer, with C. Viper and Alex arriving later this year and Ingrid hitting the stage in Spring 2026.
