Valve has provided a new update on the Steam Machine and Steam Frame and their impending release.

When they were first announced in 2025, the Steam Machine and Steam Frame were slated for release in the first half of 2026. However, in a February blog post, they noted that they needed to reassess pricing matters and still hoped to ship the hardware in the first half of the year. Now, there’s a new update that still promises a 2026 release.

Valve Details Steam Machine Compatibility Before Release

In a June 4 blog post, Valve noted that both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame are slated for shipment this summer. Furthermore, both will have Standalone verified programs similar to the Steam Deck verified initiative. For those who already run games on the Steam Deck, any games that run on that hardware should work without issue on the forthcoming PC-console hybrid.

“The requirements for Steam Machine Verified are nearly identical to Steam Deck Verified, and focus on the customer experience out of the box: Does the default controller configuration work well? Do the default graphic settings perform well? Tens of thousands of Steam titles have gone through the Steam Deck Verified program, so for both developers and customers, the Steam Machine Verified program will feel very familiar,” notes.

As for the Steam Frame VR headset, that is designed for high-quality game streaming from a PC. It’s also a PC in its own right, and games can be run entirely on the headset.

“Like Steam Deck Verified, the Steam Frame Standalone Verified program focuses on the experience customers will have with the device out-of-the-box in standalone mode,” says Valve.

There’s still no price for either device. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available.
