Split Fiction is on Course to Outsell It Takes Two’s 20 Million Copies

It Takes Two launched Hazelight Studios to superstardom, but Split Fiction could go one better. It Takes Two has sold 20 million copies and counting, and won numerous Game of the Year awards, but Split Fiction’s sales suggest the newest release could surpass it.

Considering that It Takes Two is a two-player-only game, you realize that 20 million copies sold could equate to 40 million new players. This means Hazelight Studios had a lot of success, but the next project would have expectations on its shoulders. Split Fiction was released to universal acclaim in March 2025, and each new recap of its copies sold gets more impressive by the minute.

Split Fiction Selling Much Faster Than It Takes Two

Hazelight Studios recently announced on May 6 that Split Fiction has passed four million copies sold. The co-op title has sold four million copies in two months.

This is phenomenal. It’s even more impressive when you compare sales to It Takes Two. Split Fiction’s predecessor was released on March 26, 2021, and it took nearly seven months just to sell three million copies!

This simple metric tells us that Split Fiction is greatly outpacing It Takes Two. It’s even more impressive when you consider It Takes Two was also released on PS4 and Xbox One—stretching the game’s reach further.

It took three and a half years for It Takes Two to reach 20 million copies sold. Even if Split Fiction doesn’t at least match this, it’s another huge success story. It must be even more comforting to know a Split Fiction movie is in development too.
