The long-rumored third expansion for The Witcher 3 has been officially announced by CD Projekt Red, with a release window of 2027. The announcement was originally planned for a REDstream tomorrow, on May 28, but it was pushed forward to today thanks to an accidental leak.

Titled Songs of the Past, the expansion will be available for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, and it’s being co-developed by Fools Theory. More official information will be revealed late this Summer.

Everything We Know About Songs Of The Past

As for further details, CD Projekt Red has remained fairly vague, only teasing that the expansion will “take you to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more.” With The Witcher 4 set to shift focus towards Ciri as the main protagonist, this expansion could mark the last time Geralt takes center stage for quite some time.

As for what the expansion could have in store for fans, various leaks have suggested that it may bridge the gap between the third and fourth games, while also taking players to the unexplored region of Zerrikania. The desert-inspired land is rumored to feature exotic wildlife and unique cultures, and potentially reveal how Ciri officially becomes a Witcher.

Rumors surrounding a third expansion have circulated for months through various leaks and insider reports, with some speculation previously pointing towards a May release window. However, now that it’s been confirmed for next year, it appears those earlier predictions may have been well off the mark.

The developers have also confirmed that the upcoming content update will bring revised PC system requirements, aiming to ensure smoother performance and better compatibility moving forward. These changes will come into effect alongside the next major update, with the new minimum requirements listed below:

System Component Minimum Requirement
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i5-8400
GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
VRAM 6 GB
RAM 12 GB
Storage 70 GB SSD
OS 64-bit Windows 11

The most notable change is that HDDs will no longer be supported, as SSDs offer faster load times and smoother asset streaming. Thankfully, it’s possible to revert to an older version of the game, though future updates will of course not be supported.
