A Sea of Thieves movie is officially in development, as Microsoft looks to continue its hot streak with XBOX games in Hollywood, and there’s an in-demand producer attached to the project.
This follows back on the heels of a hugely successful Minecraft Movie, as well as the ever-popular Fallout TV show. With a live-action Gears of War movie also in the works, as well as Call of Duty, Microsoft is certainly pressing ahead into the film space.
More Sea Of Thieves Details
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, a live-action Sea of Thieves film is in development, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to produce the movie through his company, Hisako Films. The producer is quickly gaining a reputation for his involvement in popular Marvel projects, such as Shang-Chi, Wonder Man, and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
As things stand, no director is attached to the movie, though XBOX Chief Content Officer Matt Booty had some details to share:
The main character of a Sea of Thieves game is actually the player and the community. So if you sit down to think about Sea of Thieves, it’s not, Who are the main characters? What’s the plot? It’s a super social game, but there’s a tone to Sea of Thieves. It’s built on a very cooperative community, so you can start to sense what that’s going to be like.
Further details remain unavailable, including attached writers or cast members, so the film is still likely a fair way away. Still, it’s another video game on the slate to get a movie or TV adaptation, with the curse surrounding the shift in medium seemingly beginning to fade away.
As for the game itself, Season 20 has just begun, introducing Custom Seas. Check out the trailer below:
