Capcom’s long-awaited Resident Evil 9 remains in the darkness. We’ve known for some time that the sequel was in development; now, during the biggest showcase of the year—Summer Game Fest 2025—it’s confirmed that Resident Evil 9 is coming, but it’s still being kept a secret and unofficial.

The Resident Evil 9 rumor mill has been constantly churning out speculation at every turn. There’s been talk of Resident Evil 9 being set on an island, then RE9 talk heated up following a Resident Evil 4 teaser, and we heard rumblings of Resident Evil 9 being developed as an open-world multiplayer game at one point.

The rumors will have to carry on and likely leave fans disappointed.

Resident Evil 9 Hinted at Summer Game Fest 2025

However, the game’s 30th anniversary was mentioned. It felt like the reveal was due, but it didn’t happen. Instead, Capcom director Jun Takeuchi told Summer Game Fest: “Now, about the latest Resident Evil game you’ve all been waiting for, bear with us a little bit longer, just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready.”
