PUBG Mobile has established the Trial of Fire event, a special reality show that will air on May 30. Instead of being a traditional esports competition played on the PUBG Mobile platform, it features real people traveling to Bali to compete in an IRL tournament. The show will broadcast 16 teams, one of which will ‘seize the Flame of Glory’ in Bali, Indonesia.
In a trailer released online, we get a glimpse at the upcoming action, which tries to mimic PUBG Mobile’s intense gameplay as much as possible. It’s a bit of a cringey creator fest, but it’s nice to see the PUBG Mobile team trying to go beyond the arena.
What is PUBG Mobile: Trial of Fire?
PUBG Mobile’s Trial of Fire show is a new reality show featuring 16 teams from around the world. They’re being flown to Bali, Indonesia, to compete in a real tournament, away from the screen and the game they know and love.
Here’s the trailer for the (kind of bizarre) show:
It’s a battle royale reality show, but it’s as far removed from the tactical gunplay and action found in PUBG Mobile as you could imagine. As one of the most popular mobile games ever made, PUBG Mobile has carved out a strong space in the mobile esports vertical, but this is not mobile esports, put it that way.
The trailer showcases summery contests in flowery Hawaiian-style shirts running around an exotic island while firing Nerf guns at one another. It looks like five minutes of fun, if nothing else!
PUBG Mobile: Trial of Fire airs on May 30th, but will it set up a new paradigm in the competitive market?
