Prologue: Go Wayback! is Now Free for Everyone

After ending development on Prologue: Go Wayback!, PlayerUnknown has announced that the early access title is now free to own for everyone.

It has certainly been a rollercoaster with big ups and downs for PlayerUnknown with the development of Prologue: Go Wayback! Back in 2025, Insider Gaming exclusively revealed that the game had an infinite number of maps, and things were looking up for the title. Cut to earlier this month, when they had to cancel the game’s development and announce layoffs. Now, the devs have released a lengthy statement on the game.

PlayerUnknown Takes Difficult Decision to Make Prologue: Go Wayback! Free

A lengthy statement from the PlayerUnknown X account (formerly Twitter) reveals that Prologue: Go Wayback! is now free for everyone; it was previously priced at $19.99. The developers spoke about the current state of the industry, noting that they are not the only ones struggling with funding. The developers also stated that their next step would be to work with “a smaller team while finding the right partners for the project.”

The team definitely regrets not being able to finish the journey, but has released one last update for Prologue: Go Wayback!. The update adds new features, Path and Trails, which come with two alternative settings. They also have two new items, the Handheld Weather Monitor and the Waterproof Spray.

Other gameplay changes include an enhanced cooking system, improved liquid management, and improved visuals for cooked food. Additionally, alarm clocks now consume less power, and there is improved persistence for flashlights, batteries, lighters, and other utility items. There are also more detailed item descriptions and support for localization.

Improvements have been made to lighting, clouds, fog, and the visual effects of the sun and moon, contributing to an overall enhanced atmosphere. Furthermore, there is improved audio consistency for indoor and outdoor sounds, especially when moving through windows and doors. The developers have also made quality-of-life changes, stability improvements, and bug fixes that you can check out in the full patch notes.
