Pokémon: Wild Card is First New Movie in Seven Years

The Pokémon universe is ready to expand once again with Pokémon: Wild Card. It’s a brand-new movie based on the TCG and Mimikyu, and its 2027 release window is another key detail we’ve learned.

Pokémon movies were an annual thing from 1998 until 2020. The COVID pandemic not only brought the world to its knees, but also affected new Pokémon film media. 2020’s Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle was officially the last new release, but fast forward seven years, and Wild Card has been spotted.

Pokémon: Wild Card Announced With 2027 Release Window

The Official Pokémon YouTube channel shared a reveal trailer for ‘Pokémon: Wild Card’ on August 31, and the 39-second teaser is literally just that.

A slow build-up shows us the back of a shiny Pokémon card design, before transitioning to the outline of a Mimkyu, the design of the ‘Mon, and eventually a player holding Pokémon cards.

The premise of the movie is confirmed by the YouTube synopsis:

‘Get ready for Pokémon: Wild Card, an all-new animated film featuring a Pokémon TCG player and Mimikyu! Stay tuned!’

Pokémon: Wild Card is ‘coming 2027 and beyond,’ so the exact release date is more unknown than a Mystery Gift. We’ll continue to look out for additional details toward the end of the year and heading into 2027.
