It’s been revealed that Pokémon TCG Pocket has had over 200 million downloads worldwide, putting it up there as one of the most downloaded mobile games.
The free-to-play game simulates the experience of collecting Pokémon cards, just in a digital form. You rip packs, battle friends and hoard incredibly rare cards to fill out your collection. It’s clearly a popular pastime, with over 200 million people having downloaded the game—and counting.
The Future Of Pokémon TCG Pocket Looks Bright
The news follows what has been an exciting year already for Pokémon TCG Pocket. Just recently, a new raid mode for the mobile game had leaked, though it might not be what you’d expect. It supposedly revolves around opening packs alongside others in one lobby, with “Raid Packs” on the cards.
Of course, the regular scheduling of content is nothing to scoff at, either. New expansions for the digital TCG drop practically every month (barring a few exceptions), with each one filled with exclusive cards to chase and updates to the Ranked meta.
That being said, Pokémon has no plans for TCG Pocket to become a major competitive game, even if some matches can be pretty sweaty. It’s settled on remaining as a side event at competitive tournaments, though that’s not to say the team aren’t trying to figure out ways to improve the experience for users at these shows, with encouraged trading a priority.
With Pokémon celebrating its 30th anniversary later this year, don’t be surprised if a special digital expansion is on the horizon. There is already a ton of speculation surrounding the base TCG and its 30th anniversary set, including when it will release as well as what cards will be available, and the Pocket version is sure to match the hype.
And don’t forget about Winds and Waves, the tenth generation of Pokémon that’s set to release next year. It’s still a ways away, but TCG Pocket is bound to include all of the newly introduced Pokémon alongside the newest title, so stay tuned for that!
