Pokemon GO Officially Reveals New Item, But There’s a Catch

Pokemon GO has officially confirmed the debut of Gold Bottle Caps, but their availability is locked as a paid GO Pass reward. Players have long requested the item’s release in Pokemon GO, as it can be helpful in PvP battles.

Earlier in June, Pokemon GO teased a new item coming to the game soon, briefly revealing the image of a bottle cap. In the mainline Pokemon games, Bottle Caps are used to max out a Pokemon’s IVs to help them reach their full potential. The item was first introduced in Gen 7, but it didn’t make its Pokemon GO debut despite fans’ demands. Fortunately for players, Bottle Caps are officially coming to the mobile title, and the developers have revealed how they will work.

Pokemon GO Fest 2025: Global is just around the corner, and it features some exciting encounters and bonuses for ticket holders and F2P players.

Pokemon GO has revealed the release of Gold Bottle Caps, an item that can increase a Pokemon’s HP, Attack, and Defense through Hyper Training. To max out a Pokemon’s IVs, players will only need one Gold Bottle Cap and complete the required Hyper Training Tasks in the next 365 days. It is worth noting that the trainee Pokemon must be a Good Buddy or higher. Players can obtain a Gold Bottle Cap starting with Pokemon GO‘s Ancient Recovered event from June 23 at 10:00 AM to June 29 at 6:00 PM. However, the Gold Bottle Cap is a GO Pass Deluxe: Ancients Recovered reward, which means players will have to pay $19.99 to upgrade their free GO Pass to a Deluxe tier. Then, they can earn enough GO Points to collect the valuable item. Additionally, the Gold Bottle Cap has an expiration date, and fans must use it before Sunday, July 6 at 11:59 PM.

Pokemon GO Reveals Gold Bottle Cap for GO Pass Deluxe: Ancients Recovered

  • Available through the GO Pass Deluxe: Ancients Recovered

    • Unlocked with purchase from June 23 to June 29
  • Can increase a Pokemon’s HP, Attack, and Defense
  • Unlocks Hyper Training Tasks for a selected Pokemon

    • Tasks expire after 365 days
  • Gold Bottle Cap expires on July 6

After using a Gold Bottle Cap, fans can select which stats they wish to increase and to what level. This could help players max out their favorite Pokemon regardless of their initial low IVs. Some of the Hyper Training Tasks that players will have to complete involve battling, exploring, or earning Candy with their trainee Pokemon as their Buddy. According to Pokemon GO, Gold Bottle Caps are extremely rare, so they will likely be tied to limited events in the future. It is unclear whether the item will stay as a paid reward, though. Other GO Pass: Ancients Recovered rewards include a random encounter with Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regieleki, or Regidrago with a special background. The GO Pass Deluxe adds Zacian and Zamazenta masks as rewards as well. On the other hand, the Ancients Recovered Pass isn’t the same as Pokemon GO‘s current June GO Pass, which will last until July 1.

Pokemon GO has a packed schedule for June. Aside from its Ancients Recovered event, the game has a Jangmo-o Community Day planned for June 21 and Yamper’s debut on June 20. The Delightful Days season will also feature Community Days with Eevee and Rookidee in later weeks.
