PlayStation is signaling that AI will play a significant role in its future.
The Sony PlayStation brand has been around for over three decades and has consistently sought to represent the cutting edge of technology across every gaming generation since its inception. Moving into the rest of the 2020s and into 2030, it appears AI will continue to be a driving force in the world of technology.
PlayStation has not been shy about discussing its efforts to utilize the powerful tech. Now, in a translated Q&A from a recent company meeting, it’s clear that they are once again doubling down on their faith in the technology and its power moving forward.
PlayStation CEO Explains Sony’s Long-Term AI Strategy

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Hideaki Nishino opened by discussing the future of AI as it pertains to Sony and PlayStation. He would call the technology an important foundational piece supporting their strategy. As for how it’s already being used, he would say that it’s helping those at Sony improve development efficiency across various fields and enhancing the player experience.
“With our global player base, deep library of IP, and integrated ecosystem, AI is an exciting long-term opportunity for us,” he’d say.
Later in the Q&A, a question was raised about how they planned to differentiate themselves from others in the field using the new technology. It is not made clear who answered this question, as Nishino was joined by Studio Business CEO Hermen Hulst and Senior Vice President of Finance and Corporate Development Lynn Azar, but the comments focused on empowering creators while increasing efficiency.
It was also stated that AI had been embedded in the development process for several years and that it’s not about cost efficiency; rather, it’s about reducing development time.
“As a creative entertainment company, we prioritize our creators, with AI enhancing their work by removing repetitive tasks and enabling faster iteration and higher-quality outputs, such as through the use of synthetic assets, including synthetic voices, as early placeholders. This is less about cost efficiency and more about improving quality and development speed, which we see as highly valuable. For many years, AI has been deeply embedded in our development processes, and we are increasingly seeing its impact on more immersive in-game experiences, where characters and worlds are enhanced by AI capabilities,” a portion of the answer reads.
“At the same time, we are experimenting at a more fundamental level with smaller, AI-first initiatives, while remaining realistic about near-term efficiency gains. These efforts position us to stay at the forefront as AI continues to evolve, both in development processes and in shaping future player experiences.”
