In a new announcement, PlayStation has stated that publishers can still get existing physical media printed after January 2028.
This is the latest development in the recent announcement that has taken over the entire internet: Sony ceasing production of physical titles after January 2028. The new information might provide some respite for players, as they will have time to grab discs of existing games.
PlayStation Informs Partners That Pre-2028 Games Will Still Be Able to Get Discs Re-Printed
According to a new Game File report, Sony sent a partner message to game publishers stating that they will “still be able to place re-orders for existing PlayStation disc games.” PlayStation has clearly informed partners that any game released before the deadline will be able to have its discs printed. However, PlayStation did say that one thing will change: the “ordering process for the discs,” which will be announced later.
Regarding what happens after the deadline, Sony stated that publishers will have the opportunity to release new games at retail using digital codes. So players now know they will be able to grab discs of games released in 2027 in 2028; however, we don’t know how these games will be offered later: will it be a code, embedded in a card, or something else? Players will have to wait for an announcement to know for sure.
