OpTic Gaming Beats Team Heretics to Win Another EWC Trophy

OpTic Gaming has stormed to success yet again at the Esports World Cup, defeating Team Heretics in the grand final in Paris to claim the trophy and the ultimate prize. This win comes mere weeks after the team failed at the final post to hit the threepeat at the Call of Duty League Championship, but revenge was secured.

OpTic flew into the semifinals after decimating FaZe Clan, this year’s COD League champions, refusing to let them take a single map in the series. From there, the team pushed 100 Thieves out of the running and into an eventual third-place finish, then took to the grand finals to face off against Team Heretics.

OpTic Lifts The Trophy in Paris

OpTic might not have been able to secure the win in Las Vegas at the COD League Championship, but redemption was secured in Paris, France. The Esports World Cup yielded an immense win for the squad, securing them back-to-back victories at the most valuable esports tournament in the business.

The weekend proved to be a thrilling one for OpTic. The team almost failed to qualify, being forced into the lower bracket by 100 Thieves but securing a spot in the playoffs by eliminating Project Notorious with a 3-0 sweep. From there, it was nothing but momentum.

OpTic wiped FaZe off the board, then threw 100 Thieves into the third-place decider, and waltzed into the grand final, a best-of-nine grueller against Team Heretics, this tournament’s surprising underdog. If anyone was going to win this event, folks thought it would be OpTic, 100 Thieves, or FaZe Clan.

Going into the grand final, 80% of Polymarket users predicted OpTic Gaming would get the win, and that’s exactly what happened.

Heretics came out the gate and faltered, with OpTic netting two maps rapidly before Team Heretics had a chance to fire back in kind, pipping OpTic Gaming to the post in the first round of search and the second Hardpoint. Both maps were close, though. OpTic Gaming definitely had insane momentum.

The tiller was handed back to OpTic for the next two maps, leading the team into a match-point position with a nail-biting game of Search and Destroy being yet another decider opportunity between the two teams, but again, momentum flipped into Team Heretics’ side of the table.

To close out the Search, ReeaL pulled off an insane 1v3 to push for another map, but it wouldn’t be enough. The final Hardpoint saw OpTic get the win without too much of a fuss.

When the dust had settled, OpTic Gaming stood with a scoreline of 5-3, leaving the team to lift the trophy and nab the $600,000 grand prize, the Club Championship points, and instant qualification to EWC 2027.

With some claiming that the Esports World Cup is bigger than COD Champs in some ways, it’s a nice way for OpTic to end a mixed season, that’s for sure.
