Before a lot of the action franchises you’ve come to know and love over the years, there was Onimusha. Capcom’s action-slasher has been kept in the dark for too long, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword wakens a sleeping beast with an imminent release date and time.
Like many new announcements, The Game Awards played host to Onimusha: Way of the Sword‘s unveiling back in 2024. Nearly two years later, it’s time for a once-dormant franchise to spring back into life, and it’s a new story with new mechanics and new action to dive into.
When Is Onimusha: Way of the Sword Coming Out?
Onimusha: Way of the Sword has a fixed September 4 release date.
September 2026 is one of the busiest gaming months in recent memory. Helping to kick things off is Onimusha: Way of the Sword. There’s no early access, so you don’t have to worry about the game being spoiled online or people beating you to the punch.
It’s actually a rare gaming instance with Onimusha launching earlier than planned. There’s been no confirmation as to why, with best guesses relating either to not being bunched up in a hectic September or to wanting to get away from the GTA 6 hype as soon as possible.
Nevertheless, we are days away from launch, so get ready for day one. We’ll update you if anything happens last-minute.

Several storefronts indicate that Onimusha launches at 9 PM PT on September 3 first.
