Onimusha: Way of the Sword Launching Earlier Than Planned

Capcom has confirmed on social media that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will now release almost three weeks earlier than planned, dropping on September 4th instead of September 24th. In the post, the team didn’t explain why they’d made this change, but fans welcomed it nonetheless.

They explained that the pre-order bonus will now become an ‘early adopter’ bonus, and users will have until September 24th to claim it. Additionally, the demo will be updated to reflect the change, but it won’t get any new content.

Onimusha Makes a Rare Move

It’s not often that games are brought forward these days, but it does happen. Earlier this year, PRAGMATA, another Capcom title, was released a week earlier than planned.

It’s not all good news, though. Capcom admitted that things are a little bit awkward for Nintendo Switch 2 players:

As a result of the release date change, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 digital version will be automatically canceled. You will need to place a new pre-order on Nintendo eShop. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Pre-orders for the physical edition, including those placed via e-Capcom, will not be cancelled.

Perhaps the relocation is something to do with Grand Theft Auto 6 launching just three weeks after the original release date. But now, Onimusha: Way of the Sword will need to closely contend with The Blood of Dawnwalker, a somewhat similar game that launches just one day earlier.

It might also lose some players just ten days later when Marvel’s Wolverine hits the market.
