Nintendo Switch 2 Job Listing Hints at VRR Support

The Nintendo Switch 2 is a huge improvement over the first console, with 4K, HDR, and many other wondrous upgrades. VRR Support is notably missing from the device, though, but it might not be forever.

VRR Support ensures that whatever FPS is being outputted, your TV/console syncs up. This ensures smooth gameplay without screen tearing or any input lag. Every console and brand is always striving for perfection, which is why it’s no surprise to see that future Switch 2 consoles could include VRR.

The Nintendo Careers site is advertising for a ‘Sr Engineer, Display (NTD)’ job role.

Outside of the usual spiel about the company, Nintendo is seeking someone with over 5 years of experience, as well as a solid understanding of mechanical jargon that I won’t bore you with.

The duties include:

‘Architect, design, and implement display driver stack for use with current and future products.

Develop and refine display software stack to ensure compliance with various display standards and specifications.

Research and champion new features/technologies capable of being successfully deployed in massively used gaming consoles.’

The big part here is ‘current and future products,’ which hints at the Nintendo Switch 2, and future Nintendo hardware.

But more importantly, one of the key requirements of the job is: ‘Knowledge of display technologies such as HDR and VRR.’

I’m sure you can put two and two together that Nintendo is eyeing up VRR Support, and it could be for an upcoming Switch 2 model, or failing that, the next generation of Nintendo consoles.

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S use VRR, so it’s no surprise Nintendo wants in.

This carries on from recent news that Nintendo Switch 2 consoles will be different in Europe from Summer 2026, and a new Nintendo Switch 2 with an updated screen could fix a ghosting issue.

Imagine how good The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake would look with VRR?
