Call of Duty campaigns have always been a blend of realism, surrealism, à la Black Ops 7, and can’t resist the temptation to borrow from Hollywood from time to time. Infinity Ward has revealed the direction the new MW4 campaign is going in.

Modern Warfare 4 details are out in the open, and we already know a great deal about the campaign, multiplayer, and the DMZ mode. But it’s the former that might be very interesting in MW4. I’m someone who plays every CoD campaign before doing anything else, and I’ve been wanting an iconic campaign reminiscent of earlier adventures.

Infinity Ward is looking to restore some of that CoD storytelling identity.

The Modern Warfare 4 reveal confirmed some things that had leaked previously: Call of Duty will no longer release on last-gen consoles, Call of Duty is no longer releasing day one on Xbox Game Pass, and the 2026 campaign is set in Korea.

Promo material has revealed that Captain Price is back, and it wouldn’t be a modern CoD game without our dear Captain. Let’s be honest.

But the campaign story beats feel like this will be a serious Call of Duty story.

Here are the key summary points of the new Modern Warfare 4 campaign that we’ve learned:

  • Modern Warfare 4 returns to the series’ roots with dark, gritty storytelling, cinematic set pieces, and immersive gameplay moments to deliver a Campaign that feels both blockbuster in scale and grounded in authenticity.
  • A full-scale invasion erupts in a new theater of war, on the Korean Peninsula, igniting a rapidly escalating crisis unlike anything the franchise has tackled before.
  • In the high-stakes and unprecedented scale, ripped-from-the-headlines narrative, a volatile mix of political tension, shadow operations, and outside interference pushes the world toward the brink of war.
  • Private Park, a young Korean grunt soldier, is thrust into combat for the first time, as he and his squad are forced to overcome impossible odds in a gripping zero-to-hero journey.
  • Captain Price returns and forms a rogue alliance, operating outside the system and apart from the Task Force 141 team he once called his own.
  • Missions set in diverse global locations and varied combat scenarios, from trench warfare in Korea to close-quarters battles in New York, to high-speed pursuits through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults to reclaim territory.
