Monster Fantasy, a game that was being called out for being too similar to Monster Hunter, has responded to these comparisons.

Spotted by Automaton during one of the recent Steam FAQs, Monster Fantasy developers Jotoyo responded to the comparisons being made with Capcom’s popular series. The question directly addressed that the game looked very similar and its unique features, and here’s what the developers stated.

Monster Fantasy Has Hunting as Only One Part of Gameplay Unlike Monster Hunter

Monster Fantasy mentioned that one of its inspirations is the Monster Hunter series, which the game’s core creator admires greatly. However, unlike Monster Hunter, Monster Fantasy aims to prioritize “new experiences created by the interaction between different gameplay systems.” The specifics of these new experiences were not detailed in their response.

The developers addressed the gameplay aspects of their game, acknowledging that some of their combat demonstrations may “remind players of Monster Hunter.” However, they emphasized that once players actually experience the game, they will find it to be quite different. According to the Monster Fantasy developers, “Hunting large monsters is only one part of our gameplay,” which distinguishes it from Monster Hunter, where hunting is the primary focus.

The Monster Fantasy developers emphasize that they want players to fully immerse themselves in the fantasy world they are building, which includes activities like building villages, forming relationships with villagers, and more, in addition to the hunting and combat sections.

At the same time, the developers have acknowledged that the early content shown from Monster Fantasy has “given players the impression of a high degree of similarity” to Monster Hunter. They will be taking this feedback seriously and have already begun adjusting and improving the design. Moving forward, the content showcase will better explain the unique features of Monster Fantasy, the devs concluded.
