Tomorrow, on August 26, voting will open for the Gamescom Awards 2026, a relatively small but community-driven event that bestows awards upon some of the most high-profile games tied to Gamescom. Mostly, it’s games that are showcased, playable, or perhaps revealed during Gamescom.
This year’s nominations slate for the Gamescom Awards is stacked with top-tier titles, but the game with the most nominations isn’t even coming out for potentially another six months. It’s Metro 2039, the long-awaited post-apocalyptic shooter from 4A Games.
Metro 2039 has five nominations at the Gamescom Awards, beating all comers in the volume stakes. It’s nominated for:
- Best PC Game
- Best PlayStation Game
- Best XBOX Game
- Most Epic Game
- Best Visuals
This is mostly based on the game’s showing thus far. It has had some stunning trailers emerge over the last few months, and tonight’s Opening Night Live showcase will give us one of the most tantalizing glimpses we’ve had at the game yet.
Slated to launch in February 2027, Metro 2039 takes players back to the dank, haunted underground in post-war Moscow. It features a new protagonist, voiced for the first time, and it’s powered by the latest and sharpest iteration of the 4A Engine we’ve ever seen.
It’s also poised to be the darkest and most harrowing Metro experience yet. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll know that’s no easy feat, but the team at 4A Games is adamant they’re up to the task.
Of course, Metro 2039 isn’t alone in the nominations lineup for the Gamescom Awards. Alien Isolation 2 is up for four awards, for instance: Best Visuals, Best Audio, Best Gameplay, and Best PC Game.
