Marvel’s Wolverine Includes Option to Turn Off Gore

We’re into the final stretch in the wait for Insomniac Games’ latest expansion of their comic book universe with the launch of Marvel’s Wolverine, and additional details have been revealed, confirming that gore can be turned off.

Insomniac have been entrusted with another one of Marvel’s most iconic characters in Wolverine, after superb results with their Spider-Man series of games, but taking the reins with Wolverine is an entirely different prospect from the web slinger.

Trailers revealed so far have indicated a high level of gore, with brutal takedowns and dismemberment, but, for those looking for a lighter tone, it has been confirmed that gore can be turned off in the settings.

You Can Turn Off Gore in Marvel’s Wolverine

In an interview with IGN off the back of the latest gameplay trailer released at Sony’s State of Play, game director Mike Daly detailed the importance of violence when replicating Wolverine, but confirmed the option to turn off gore.

“When you look at the aspects of the character and all the stories he’s been through in his history, it was clear that violence was a key part of that,” Daly explained.

“Now, all that being said, we know that it’s not for everyone. And because we knew this was going to be a big part of the game from the beginning, we also implemented an accessibility feature to turn off gore.

“It’s clearly integrated into the game in a lot of different ways, and so it’s a nuanced feature that is very selective about what we show, what we censor, turning off blood and things like that, just to make it more palatable to people who don’t really want to have that part of the experience.”

It’s been known for a while that Marvel’s Wolverine features a higher age rating than the Spider-Man titles, with an M rating by the ESRB and an 18+ rating by PEGI, compared to the T rating by the ESRB and a PEGI 16 rating for Spider-Man 2.
