M80 Enter CDL After Acquiring Boston Breach Franchise

North American esports organisation M80 has joined the Call of Duty League (CDL) ahead of the 2026/27 season, which will begin December 5.

Boston Breach spent four years in the CDL but will now be replaced by the newly named M80 Boston, as the new owners have opted to stay in the city.

The Boston Breach management released a statement last week, saying: “We could not be more grateful for the unwavering support and loyalty of the fanbase that has grown alongside us.”

Ahead of the new CDL season, Activision Blizzard removed franchise entrance fees and reduced revenue sharing. However, financial details of M80’s slot acquisition have not been disclosed.

M80’s Competitive Chops

Call of Duty is the latest addition to M80’s esports rosters, with the org also competing in 2XKO, Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, and Rocket League.

Last November, M80 won the largest international title in the organisation’s history in the BLAST R6 Major in Munich, while its CS2 roster has multiple titles and Major appearances under its belt.

M80 will inherit three members of the Boston Breach CDL roster in Kristopher ‘Spart’ Cervantez, Evan ‘Purj’ Perez and Thomas ‘TJHaLy’ Haly as well as head coach Sean ‘Seany’ O’Connor and coach Mike ‘Magick’ Libeccio.

Marcus ‘Afro’ Reid departed the team following the roster’s exit from the Esports World Cup.

The Boston Breach roster finished tenth out of 12 teams in the previous CDL season.

M80 Boston CDL team will be based and operated out of the Greater Boston area, with team operations, staff and community programming anchored in the region.

The organisation claims it intends to build local events, watch parties, grassroots and collegiate initiatives, and partnerships with regional businesses and institutions.

Adam Morrison, who joins M80 as chief commercial officer as part of the acquisition, stressed the importance of local ties to his job.

“Building a franchise with strong New England and Boston heritage was one of the most rewarding undertakings of my career.”

“Being able to help write a new chapter within that market alongside an emerging global brand like M80 was an opportunity I couldn’t be more excited about,” Morrison added.

Meanwhile, M80 founder Marco Mereu stressed that the organisation’s focus is on titles:

“Boston is a championship city, and it deserves a championship esports organization… We are entering to compete for trophies, to build something permanent in New England, and to give this region a team it can call its own.”
