LoL Patch 26.19 Wants a Lucian Mid Meta for Worlds 2026

Riot Games has released a preview for the upcoming League of Legends update, LoL Patch 26.19.

These changes are being made with pro play in mind, as the LoL World Championship (Worlds) 2026 will be played on the following Patch 26.20.

There are large-scale changes coming, including buffs to tank supports’ HP Regen and an update to the top lane Role Quest.

However, the changes that have caught the community’s eye most are mid lane-specific buffs to Lucian.

Phroxzon Explains Lucian Mid Buffs

Lead gameplay designer Matt ‘Phroxzon’ Leung-Harrison has offered extra context to the thinking behind the Lucian changes.

Phroxzon claims that Lucian mid is “considered very weak in basically all skill brackets.”

“For people who enjoy playing him there, role quests have been a relative nerf to him and the Vigilance passive for bot is doing a lot to make him viable there,” he added.

The Rioter then conceded that the balance team may have to look into either further nerfing that passive to reduce his reliance on specific supports or removing it altogether, though that could lead to Lucian top frustrating players again.

Phroxzon gave further context to players’ ranged top frustrations, saying the balance team “agree that when these champs get too powerful it leads to pretty degraded low gameplay states.”

However, he also believes that ranged top laners deserve to be viable, just at an acceptable power level.

Planned Changes for LoL Patch 26.19

The full list of planned changes for the patch before LoL Worlds 2026 is as follows:

  • CHAMPION BUFFS
    • Elise
    • Fiora
    • Volibear
    • Aatrox
    • Aphelios
    • Draven

    • Rumble
    • Nasus
    • Lucian (Bot)
    • Ryze
  • SYSTEM BUFFS
    • Top Role Quest TP Cooldown
    • Support HP Regen

Phroxzon claims that at higher play levels in some regions, top has been significantly weaker than bot lane, so are making role quest changes”

“We’re giving a targeted adjustment to the more skill-skewed aspect of top lane, through the Teleport and upgraded Teleports from the Role Quest, which are typically used more effectively in skilled play (where top needs the help).”

Phroxzon states this should allow top laners to have more influence on the map, especially in split push scenarios.

Meanwhile, he also explained why Riot is making a “giant swing” with melee support HP regen buffs.

Phroxzon says that after nerfs in 26.16, pre-grub spawn support roaming is way down again, especially in pro play, and that’s what they hoped for.

Yet, enchanters and ranged supports are dominating the meta again, so the hope is these buffs will allow melee supports to engage and withstand some poke, rather than get poked out of lane.
