Killing Floor 3 Developer Tripwire Interactive Announces Layoffs

Tripwire Interactive, known for the Killing Floor series, has revealed that 23 people have been laid off from the company, something Tripwire has called an ‘Incredibly difficult decision.’

Hearing about layoffs never gets any easier, and the gaming industry continues to lose talented developers. Tripwire Interactive has fallen foul of more layoffs, and while it’s good news that the studio isn’t shutting down completely, it’s another dark day for game development.

Tripwire Interactive Lays Off 23 Employees

A March 4 statement on Tripwire Interactive’s LinkedIn account explained some big changes in the company:

“We regrettably confirm that our studio has recently undergone a workforce reduction which has affected 23 people from across different areas. This was an incredible difficult decision, and was heavily deliberated given the impact on those affected, along with the overall team.”

It explained how the studio was “deeply grateful to each of them for their contributions and the impact they’ve had,” and that support will be offered.

No official reasons are given, but the statement added:

“As the gaming industry continues to evolve, so do the needs of our studios which means understanding our long-term strategy and alinging with business realities where needed in order to stay focused on our key crerative goals.”

Tripwire’s legacy includes the three Killing Floor games, along with Man Eater and the Rising Storm series.

Killing Floor 2 was a big success for the company, and a lot of hype and attention was on Killing Floor 3. However, complications with the Stress Test and a lengthy Killing Floor 3 delay were all factors that ultimately led to a good, if unspectacular, Killing Floor 3 release.

It’s unclear if the game’s performance has been a contributing factor in the layoffs.
