Jubilee & Black Widow Rework Confirmed To Headline Marvel Rivals Season 9

Jubilee has been confirmed as the next hero to join the ever-growing roster of Marvel Rivals, as she’s due to arrive in Season 9 of the hero shooter.

As expected, she’s bursting onto the scene as a Strategist, though she’s not the only piece of headline news for this update, as Black Widow is also finally receiving an overhaul, with the Duelist being given a new lease of life.

Big Changes For New & Existing Characters

Jubilee is bound to be the main attraction of Season 9, as is always the case with new characters. The firework-touting mutant is locked in as a healer, with her machine-gun-esque burst fire both serving as a source of healing and rapid damage.

Perhaps most excitingly, her Ultimate serves more purpose than just a ring of healing, as it repeatedly pulses, knocking back enemies in its radius, allowing her and the team to take serious ground. In tense team fights over a capture point or convoy, this Ult is bound to win the odd match single-handedly.

However, it almost feels like we’re getting two new characters this time around, as Black Widow is also receiving a major overhaul. It’s been well reported that she’s easily one of the weakest characters in the game, and lead combat designer Zhiyong explained that it was tough to balance her one-shot-kill kit with the rest of the roster.

So, after a lot of deliberating, it’s been decided that she’ll be reworked instead. Now, she serves more as a dive character, with her sniper having turned into a DMR of sorts, as regular hip-fire shots deal burst damage. Partner that with her previous Ultimate now just a regular ability, and she’s bound to be a demon in the right hands—so long as their aim is up to the task.

As for her new Ultimate? Well, that’s where her sniper returns. You’ll be given six piercing shots that deal immense damage to enemy players, though still not quite enough to one-shot anyone with a critical hit. That said, with six shots in the chamber and the bullets’ piercing capabilities, I can already see Widow as far more than a vibes pick.

This alone would tee up Season 9 as a major hit for fans, but partner this with the completely overhauled Team-Up system, and we’re in for the biggest update Marvel Rivals has ever seen.
