Helldivers 2 continues to dish out fresh challenges with regular updates, and the latest patch introduces a mission to take out a Hive Spore Lung.

The Into The Unjust update in Helldivers 2 provides plenty of tough challenges, including taking down the extremely powerful Hive Lord, and a variety of new mission types.

One of the new missions in Helldivers 2, following the introduction of Hive planets, tasks you with destroying the Spore Lung, though it’s not always easy to find. We’re here to help, though, with some tips.

The Spore Lung is located deep within the Hive, far underground, and there’s often a maze to find the precise point.

Unlike other objectives, simply tagging the location of the Spore Lung won’t lead you directly to what you’re looking for. Instead, you’ll likely come across blocked paths, dead ends, large walls, and, sometimes, huge drops where you can fall to your death between you and your target.

Ensure you stick together with your teammates, as there will likely be swarms of enemies as you get closer, and keep an eye out for any tunnels or passages leading closer to the objective marker. A good sign you’re getting very close is a seemingly endless wave of Terminids.

Spore Lungs are located in large caverns, often with a few Bug Breach holes nearby, and the objective itself is a large, glowing, pulsating object on the roof of the cave. However, don’t open fire on it, as there are specific approaches to destroying it.

How to Destroy The Spore Lung in Helldivers 2

Portable Hellbombs are a necessity to destroy Spore Lungs in Helldivers 2, but you don’t need to equip them to your Stratagem loadout.

Instead, when you near an area where the objective is, the game informs you that an objective-critical Stratagem is available. Call this in, equip the bomb to your back, and start your journey.

To arm the bomb, either drop it on the ground or get a teammate to activate it. If you adopt the latter approach, your sacrifice will be remembered. While it does lead to death, I’ve found this to be the most effective strategy, particularly if there’s a large swarm of Terminids.

Some players have reported issues with the Hellbomb not destroying the Spore Lung when it’s on the ceiling, however, so be aware of that. Jump Packs can avoid that issue, as long as you time your jump to the detonation point.
