Harrowing FPS ‘The Defiant’ Gets New Trailer During Opening Night Live

The Defiant, a realistic and brutal first-person shooter centered around a never-before-seen portion of World War II, has received a stunning new trailer during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase. The game, which is being pieced together by Hangzhou Hoothanes and published by 4Divinity, tells the ‘heroic stories’ from the Chinese battlefields of the Second World War.

It’s a deeply authentic experience that doesn’t sugarcoat the atrocities experienced in that part of the world during the largest conflict in human history. In the team’s words, ‘What you hold is not merely a weapon, but a historical relic carrying the memories of battles fought nearly a century ago.’

The Defiant Will Challenge Battlefield

Until now, this kind of game has sat firmly under the Battlefield banner, with EA’s studios producing these large-scale, cinematic war-focused experiences complete with massive arsenals, sumptuous set pieces, and destructive elements.

Now, Hangzhou Hoothanes is taking up that mantle to create The Defiant, a game that, on the surface, could pass for a Battlefield shooter.

With dozens of authentic weapons, a thrilling single-player campaign, and co-operative gameplay coming as standard, The Defiant promises to be a breathtaking first-person shooter that, for now, has no focus on traditional multiplayer.

It’s all about the narrative of these rarely-seen battles of the Second World War.

Here’s the new trailer:

The Defiant represents something rare from a Chinese developer, but it looks to be a phenomenal debut title for the studio.
