As a remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved builds the original from the ground up, which means making some changes along the way. We’ve learned about new gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life improvements to fit with modern-day standards.
The Halo: Campaign Evolved release date is getting closer, and you can get a snippet of what’s to come with the Halo: Campaign Evolved Trophy List.
But it’s been revealed that Halo Studios is making even more changes to the first Halo than we thought.
Halo: Campaign Evolved Tinkers With Enemy AI and More

The July Community Q&A for Halo: Campaign Evolved covers some repeated questions about the game, and it highlights gameplay revisions that should (hopefully) make the shooter even more elite.
One question asks if there will be a Machinima Mode, and the answer is a good one: ‘Yes, Halo: Campaign Evolved will have a Machinima mode! With Machinima mode, you will be able to pop out a freecam, lower your weapons, and even control your Spartan while in freecam mode.’
Content creators and old-school fans should have a blast with this!
But then we come to two big points.
Firstly: ‘Can I drop my weapon for teammates without needing to swap it for a gun on the ground?’
‘Yes! This functionality, which was first implemented in Halo Infinite, is back, and we are happy to have it in Halo: Campaign Evolved as well. If you have two weapons, feel free to drop one of them for your friend anytime you want!’
This is a huge and welcome update. As I said, some changes are needed to accommodate modern-day standards, and keeping this true and authentic would’ve reflected a more antiquated design choice.
Another positive step forward concerns the game’s enemy AI. When asked: ‘Has Campaign AI gotten improvements since the preview with creators?’
The reply was simple:
‘Yes! The XBOX Showcase media and creator preview demo earlier this month was a pre-release build tailored to specific timing and scope needs. Over the last few weeks, the development team has been polishing and improving elements of the game, including enemy AI behaviors.’
All in all, these should help complete the remake experience, and it was helped recently when the Halo team clarified that PlayStation Plus isn’t needed for Local Co-Op on PS5.
