For the first time in a God of War game, Kratos will not be the main character to use throughout the majority of the game. This isn’t the gameplay feature I’m talking about in God of War Laufey, though, and it could have an impact on the game’s combat.
How good was the God of War Laufey reveal during the Sony State of Play Showcase?
It’s why we watch these special events. If you didn’t know, the Sony State of Play June 2026 Showcase delivered tons of incredible reveals and announcements. But God of War Laufey was the big one, and its mega showcase has a gameplay change that you might not have realized.
God Of War Laufey Has Jump Button & Aerial Combat

Not since 2013’s God of War Ascension prequel has a GOW title let you jump of your own accord. This might sound odd, but it’s completely true.
Santa Monica decided with the reboot games that Kratos was perhaps getting on. His brittle, older knees couldn’t lift him into the air anymore, yet he’s capable of defeating near-invincible Gods—go figure.
During the Laufey gameplay reveal, Faye was clearly jumping into the air and using aerial juggle combos on the enemies.
Again, once Kratos decided to make the long journey to a different mythology, the haziness of the fog and his weariness decided he could no longer jump. The early God of War games flourished with jump attacks, juggling, and aerial combos.
It seems like Faye has brought that missing spark back in God of War Laufey, and it could provide a more agile play style and fluid combos, contrasting Kratos’ hard-hitting, bludgeoning dominance.
See for yourself in the extended God of War Laufey Official Gameplay Showcase.
