The Coalition took the GOW franchise in a different direction with Gears of War: E-Day. The prequel takes us back to a happier time with Marcus and Dom paired together, and it seems we may get to experience their early journey together for a while.
The Xbox Games Showcase 2026 was huge for Gears fans. Gameplay footage was shown off, and it looked incredible. A release date was finally slapped on E-Day, and there was the bombshell that E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive!
The following days have seen preview embargoes drop, and key details have been announced, including details on the campaign length.
Gears of War: E-Day Could be the Longest Ever

In an article by IGN, the company spoke to Gears of War: E-Day’s creative director, Matt Searcy, about the new shooter.
The FPS prequel doesn’t use AI, which is always nice to hear, and the campaign itself is still a fairly linear affair—opting not to include more open-world elements or freedom that many modern games are choosing.
However, the game’s campaign length is arguably one of the standout points:
‘Searcy said Gears of War: E-Day is “longer than any campaign [The Coalition has] built” at over 14 hours, with more collectibles than it’s ever had before in a campaign. Of course, this includes the classic COG Tags.’
The Coalition took over GOW duties in 2015, with 2016’s Gears of War 4 being the first one under the company’s stewardship.
Other GOW campaigns, according to HowLongToBeat, fall anywhere between 9 and 12 hours. This would make Gears of War: E-Day easily the longest campaign in the franchise’s history!
