Fnatic founder and CEO Sam Mathews has confirmed that the organisation has received acquisition bids.
A report from RFT claims Fnatic has received several offers ranging from minority stakes to a full acquisition, with football clubs amongst the interested parties.
Fnatic is one of the longest-running esports organisations in the world, but has struggled to replicate previous success.
Now, Mathews has moved to reassure Fnatic fans that, despite the bids, the organisation and the brand itself are going nowhere.
Potential Fnatic Takeover
Reports in the British media claimed that Fnatic would be valued at around $100m (£74.7m) in a sale.
However, RFT now claims that the valuation of Fnatic has been significantly lower in the ongoing negotiations.
With various offers on the table, a decision will supposedly be made in the coming weeks.
This year has been a difficult period for the organisation, with Fnatic struggling across multiple top-tier esports titles.
Fnatic’s League of Legends team is looking to Korea for a new player , having failed to even qualify for the LEC Spring Playoffs.
The team is at risk of failing to qualify for the LoL World Championships for the first time in 10 years.
Meanwhile, Fnatic missed out on Valorant Masters London after a disastrous showing in the VCT EMEA Playoffs.
This was particularly heartbreaking for fans of the UK-based organisation as it would have been a homecoming for British star Jake ‘Boaster’ Howlett.
And while Fnatic made its name in Counter-Strike, it is nowhere near the dominant force in CS2.
Fnatic just parted ways with its longest-serving CS player Freddy ‘KRIMZ’ Johansson after a 12 year stint.
Mathews Clarifies Current Fnatic Situation
While rumours swirl, CEO Mathews claims that Fnatic as a brand and entity will remain.
Responding to LEC broadcast talent Laure Valée, Mathews stated:
“We’re not going anywhere… We’re in investment conversations. Nothing is decided, but yes we’ve had acquisition offers.”
One fan with a Fnatic tattoo asked that the organisation doesn’t change their logo, and Mathews claimed “of course” they won’t.
