First details for Subnautica 2‘s next major update have been revealed, as Unknown Worlds begins to pivot from rapid hotfixes to the highly anticipated 1.1 update.

A roadmap of sorts was released a few weeks back, but this update clarifies what will be added in the next major update, as a new explorable region and craftable vehicle are at the heart of the game’s future.

Subnautica 2 1.1 Update Details

Information surrounding the 1.1 update for Subnautica 2 was shared on the official Subnautica YouTube channel, with Design Lead Anthony Gallegos providing the news in a Dev Vlog.

Before update 1.1, there are a few improvements and additions coming to the game, including the highly requested Proximity Chat. Emotes and more player customisation options are also on the way, as well as a host of smaller features like replayable voice logs and more early-game accessible Biomods.

However, most fans will be desperate to hear what the next major update for Subnautica 2 has in store, and it shouldn’t disappoint. Gallegos explained that the update will be ‘progression and story-driven,’ whilst also offering an entirely new region to explore.

The said update will also provide a new vehicle, as well as a host of creatures and resources to uncover. To top things off, the new region is home to the now-revered Collector Leviathon, with it supposedly teeing up to be ‘the scariest the game has been yet.’

All of these updates and features sound incredibly enticing, and Subnautica 2 seems to be moving smoothly along its early access period. Release dates for these updates remain unknown, though the video description mentions they’ll arrive ‘over the coming weeks and months,’ so hopefully they won’t be too far away.
