EXCLUSIVE: Developers Of FIFA World Cup Let Go At Refactor Games

Another development team has found themselves out of work following the release of their game. Nearly two months after its launch, the developers behind Netflix’s FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition have been let go from Refactor Games.

Former employees took to LinkedIn over the last day to announce their departure from the company.

Funding Was Pulled By Delphi

In talking with sources, Insider Gaming can confirm that a majority of the staff were let go. As for the reasoning, Delphi Interactive, which partially owned the studio, pulled funding after the game’s launch. The decision to cancel the contract with Refactor Games came without warning, according to those who spoke with Insider Gaming under the condition they not be named.

It was explained that staff were notified during a general meeting on Friday, July 31. When asked about any sort of severance, none was offered to the staff. They were let go that day, with nothing to show.

Friday was payday, so that was the date of the final paycheck for those let go.

According to Refactor Games CEO Nathan Burba, around 80 people were impacted by the layoffs. He says, however, that Refactor Games will regroup and move forward. His hope, he says, despite being impacted in the short term, his hope is to hire a number of let-go staff back in the near future for their other projects.

Those who spoke said that part wasn’t mentioned during the meeting where they found out they were being let go.

Delphi did not respond to request for comment prior to publication.
