Dying Light: The Beast Will No Longer Launch on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One

Techland has just shared the news that Dying Light: The Beast, last year’s open-world zombie-slaying sensation, will not launch on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. This comes after months of speculation and rumors concerning the game surfacing on the last console generation, something that Techland promised would happen.

This leaves millions of prospective players in the dark, but in a post on social media, Techland explained why they’ve made this ‘difficult decision’ so far down the line.

Dying Light: The Beast Canceled on Last Gen

In a post on social media, Techland explained why Dying Light: The Beast isn’t coming to Xbox One or PS4:

Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware. Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide.

As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create. This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind. Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience.

Most fans fully expected this news, but what has them the most twisted up is just how long it took Techland to confirm the cancellation of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Dying Light: The Beast. It was said for the longest time on Dying Light’s website that the game would launch ‘before the end of 2025’, a note that went unaltered for months into 2026.

Dying Light: The Beast was a frontrunner for my game of the year in 2025, and it scored perfect marks from me in my comprehensive review. The team at Techland worked wonders with the game that was always supposed to be an expansion to Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and in the months that followed the release, they poured updates into the ecosystem.

Most recently, they released Restored Land, an expansion that allows players to fully rid the open-world map of the undead, recovering the region and letting survivors roam free once again.

Sadly, those who want to experience that on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are now left out in the cold.
